A Tragic Accident

The boardinghouse keeper in Lowell sent the following newspaper clipping to your parents:

"We are informed that Eliza Paige, a weaver in the Boott Cotton Mill, was struck in the head by a shuttle, which flew from a nearby loom and struck her in the temple causing a mortal wound. Though she was taken immediately to Lowell City Hospital, she could not be saved. The overseer, Mr. Richard Randall, indicated that this kind of accident is rare and that the Boott Mill mechanics keep the looms well maintained. He praised Miss Paige as a good and careful worker, always regular in her attendance, and a regular at church services. A collection was taken among her fellow workers to assure her a proper burial with a small headstone in the Lowell Cemetery."
